HPD, when necessary, will issue a shelter-in-place order during law enforcement activity to allow for officers to conduct their work while ensuring area residents do not become involved in an incident, or in case an incident were to escalate. In today’s case, officers were called to Crescent Drive to assist with an individual in crisis, and though we were not aware of any potential risk to area residents at that time, a shelter-in-place order was issued out of an abundance of caution.

The Harrisonburg Police Department has issued a temporary shelter-in-place order for homes in the area of Crescent Drive and Long Avenue near Reservoir Street due to ongoing police activity in the area.

This shelter-in-place order does not impact other areas of the city. A notice will be posted to this page when the order is rescinded. We appreciate your patience as law enforcement works in this area.
