Congressman Ben Cline, who represents Virginia’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on October 15, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and related policy issues.
In a post from October 15, Cline wrote, “Senate Democrats are still withholding their votes, pushing us into another week of a government shutdown, and the consequences are real. Federal employees are set to miss their paychecks, Virginia’s economy is slowing, and consumer spending is dropping fast. I urge my https://t.co/UFpK82bvef”.
Later the same day, Cline addressed the impact of the shutdown on military families, stating, “Senate Democrats were willing to let our troops go without pay today. One in five military families rely on a single income. Missing a paycheck would be devastating. Thank you @POTUS for ensuring America’s heroes will receive their paychecks this month.”
Cline also commented on immigration, saying, “Being in the United States on a visa is a privilege, not a right. The cancellation of a visa or green card falls within the executive discretion of @SecRubio. Those who celebrate or incite violence have NO place in our country. https://t.co/ljkcnoNtdQ”
Ben Cline has represented Virginia’s 6th district in Congress since 2019, after succeeding Bob Goodlatte. Prior to his current role, Cline served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2018. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972, Cline is 51 years old and resides in Fincastle. He graduated from Bates College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994 and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond in 2007.
