Congressman Ben Cline, who represents Virginia’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed issues of welfare fraud, immigration policy, and Department of Justice oversight in a series of posts on his official social media account.
On January 21, 2026, Cline highlighted testimony heard by the House Judiciary Committee: “The @JudiciaryGOP just heard from @nickshirleyy who testified about the rampant welfare fraud in Minnesota that stole taxpayer dollars meant for the disabled and children. We are grateful to Nick for his role in bringing these abuses to light for the American people.”
Later that day, Cline criticized efforts to extend in-state tuition benefits to undocumented immigrants: “It’s outrageous that Jay Jones is fighting to give illegal aliens in-state tuition in our Commonwealth. These taxpayer-funded benefits should be reserved for citizens of Virginia and not given to those who are here in violation of our laws.” The debate over access to state-funded education benefits has been ongoing within Virginia’s legislature.
On January 22, 2026, Cline commented on Special Counsel Jack Smith’s conduct: “Jack Smith abused his power to weaponize the DOJ, fueling rampant targeting of conservatives, including President Trump and GOP Members of Congress. Today, Democrats on the Committee will rely on softball questions. Meanwhile, @JudiciaryGOP will pursue the FACTS and the TRUTH.”
Cline has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after succeeding Bob Goodlatte. He previously represented constituents as a delegate in Virginia’s House from 2002 until his election to Congress. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 and currently residing in Fincastle, Cline holds degrees from Bates College and the University of Richmond.
