Congressman Ben Cline, who represents Virginia’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues related to national security, the ongoing government shutdown, and concerns over foreign acquisitions in the biotech sector.
On November 3, 2025, Cline highlighted concerns about America’s reliance on China for rare earth materials. He stated, “Rare earth materials are essential to America’s manufacturing and defense industries, yet China continues to dominate this critical market. I’m encouraged to see Secretary Scott Bessent taking steps to reduce our dependence on foreign adversaries like China and strengthen U.S.”
The following day, November 4, Cline addressed the continuing government shutdown. In his post he wrote, “It’s now day 35 of the government shutdown. The truth is simple: Republicans have provided the votes to reopen the government, yet five Senate Democrats continue to block it. They’re putting politics over country and party loyalty above the people they represent.”
Later that same day, Cline raised alarms about a potential acquisition in the pharmaceutical industry by a foreign company during the shutdown period. He posted: “A foreign company is trying to exploit the Democrats’ shutdown to bypass FTC oversight and acquire a major U.S. biotech firm in the fast-growing obesity drug market. This move would undermine competition, stifle American innovation, and hand more control of a booming industry to”
Cline has served as Virginia’s 6th District representative since 2019 after succeeding Bob Goodlatte. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 through 2018. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 and currently residing in Fincastle at age 51, Cline holds degrees from Bates College (BA) and the University of Richmond (JD).
