Congressman Ben Cline, who has represented Virginia’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, criticized Democratic leaders and their approach to ongoing government funding negotiations in a series of posts on October 2, 2025.

In his first post at 16:00 UTC, Cline addressed the government shutdown, stating: “It’s been 36 hours since the #SchumerShutdown began. Democrats are still clinging to their $1.5T partisan wishlist instead of putting the American people first. It’s time for Senator Schumer to stop the games and come to the table with @HouseGOP and @SenateGOP.”

He continued his criticism later that day at 17:23 UTC by referencing past Democratic presidential candidates’ positions on healthcare for undocumented immigrants: “In 2019, every single Democratic presidential candidate pledged to give healthcare benefits to illegal immigrants. Now, Congressional Democrats are shutting down the government for that same reason. Their priorities have always been out of touch, prioritizing illegals over”

At 18:51 UTC, Cline focused on Affordable Care Act subsidies and alleged misuse of taxpayer funds: “Millionaires and billionaires are receiving ACA subsidies, and some investigations show fraud could total up to $27 BILLION this year. Republicans are fighting to stop this gravy train for the wealthy, but Democrats’ dirty Continuing Resolution protects this abuse of your tax”

Ben Cline was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 and currently resides in Fincastle. He holds a BA from Bates College (1994) and a JD from the University of Richmond (2007). Before joining Congress in 2019—succeeding Bob Goodlatte—he served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 until 2018.
