Congressman Ben Cline, who represents Virginia’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and energy policy debates.

On October 9, 2025, Cline addressed the impact of the government shutdown on air travel, stating: “It’s been 204 hours since the #SchumerShutdown began. Yesterday alone, there were 2,806 flight delays and 53 cancellations. These aren’t just numbers, they represent families missing loved ones and Americans delayed on business trips. Senate Republicans have provided 52 of the”.

Later that day, he criticized recent changes in energy policy following new legislation. On October 9, he wrote: “Right as the Green New Scam took effect, electricity prices soared. The Left promotes unreliable energy sources like wind and Chinese solar without understanding the costs it imposes on American families. The real solution is unleashing American energy.”

On October 10, Cline supported Speaker Johnson’s position regarding the shutdown and attributed blame to Democrats for its continuation: “.@SpeakerJohnson is exactly right – the Democrats are playing politics with the shutdown just to satisfy the radical left. Every day the Democrats’ shutdown goes on, it hurts our troops, our constituents, and working families across America.”

Cline has served in Congress since replacing Bob Goodlatte in 2019 and previously held a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2018. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 and currently residing in Fincastle at age 51, Cline holds degrees from Bates College (BA) and a JD from the University of Richmond.
