Congressman Ben Cline, who represents Virginia’s 6th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on September 23, 2025, addressing government funding negotiations and concerns about censorship on social media.
In a tweet at 12:24 p.m. UTC, Cline referenced comments made by Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer in 2024 regarding continuing resolutions (CRs), stating: “Remember when Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer said in 2024 a CR was the quickest, simplest way to keep the government open? His politics seemed to have changed. It’s time Senate Democrats put the American people first.”
Later that day at 2:16 p.m. UTC, Cline criticized what he described as censorship by social media platforms during the Biden-Harris administration: “The censorship of Americans on social media was outrageous violating our God-given First Amendment rights. Even platforms admitted the Biden-Harris Admin’s censorship was wrong. Glad @JudiciaryGOP got answers for the American people.”
At 3:15 p.m. UTC, Cline commented on legislative efforts in the House of Representatives regarding government funding and health care appropriations: “.@HouseGOP advanced a bill to extend funding for 50 days while pressing Democrats to act on fiscally responsible appropriations. Instead, Dems threaten a shutdown to hand $40B a year to insurers. We stand with patients, doctors & taxpayers, not special interests. #SchumerShutdown”
Ben Cline has represented Virginia’s 6th District since replacing Bob Goodlatte in 2019 and previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2018. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 and currently residing in Fincastle, Cline graduated from Bates College with a BA and later earned his JD from the University of Richmond.
