Congressman Ben Cline, representing Virginia’s 6th district since 2019, shared his perspectives on recent legislative activities through a series of tweets. Cline, who succeeded Bob Goodlatte and has been active in U.S. politics for several years, commented on a range of issues including state mandates on vehicle emissions, federal budget cuts, and international security concerns.
On June 12, 2025, Congressman Cline expressed opposition to Virginia potentially following California’s mandate to ban gas-powered cars by 2035. He stated that “the government has no business telling Americans what kind of car they can drive” and expressed pride in voting for a resolution signed by President Trump to halt this measure. “Virginia was on track to follow California’s extreme mandate banning gas-powered cars by 2035.”
Later that day, Cline highlighted his support for the President’s rescission package aimed at reducing government spending. He mentioned the importance of cutting $9.4 billion in “reckless spending” and urged the Senate to act swiftly to finalize these cuts. “I was pleased to vote for the @POTUS’s rescission package, codifying DOGE cuts.”
In a tweet posted on June 13, 2025, Cline addressed international security concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He emphasized that “militant Islamic terrorist leaders in Iran cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon,” reaffirming American support for Israel as a democratic ally. “The militant Islamic terrorist leaders in Iran cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.”
Cline has an extensive background in law and politics; he earned his BA from Bates College and later obtained a JD from the University of Richmond.
