Bridgewater College’s Screamin’ Eagles Marching Band Historic Performance at London New Year’s Day Parade 2023 To Be Broadcast Live Around the World

Bridgewater College’s Screamin’ Eagles Marching Band, which debuted just one year ago after a decades-long hiatus at the College, will join more than 8,000 performers from across the world in performing at the London New Year’s Day Parade 2023.

The London New Year’s Day Parade and Festival is the largest New Year’s Day event of its kind, watched by millions of television viewers across the world. The globally renowned street spectacular makes a hugely popular return to the heart of the West End of London where half a million spectators are expected to fill the iconic 2-mile route for the first time since January 2020. The London New Year’s Day Parade will be shown in its entirety on live TV in London and network television across the U.S. and beyond.

“We are absolutely delighted that the Screamin’ Eagles Marching Band from Bridgewater College will be coming to London to help celebrate the new year in style,” said Joe Bone, London New Year’s Day Parade Director. “London has fallen in love with the marching band culture of the USA, and our ears on the ground alerted us as to just how brilliant they are. They will receive the warmest of welcomes from an enormous audience on the street and tens of millions watching around the world.”

The Screamin’ Eagles were formally invited to perform in the 2023 London New Year’s Day Parade and Festival during an on-campus ceremony on Feb. 15. Since then, the band has been preparing for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Excited and proud doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling of performing to live audiences of millions at one of the nation’s largest New Year’s Day events. We have put in countless hours preparing for the parade and look forward to showcasing our students’ incredible talent and hard work in prime time. Our band members have put in the work, and now we’re ready to put on an impressive performance at the London New Year’s Day Parade,” said Barry Flowe, Director of Athletic Bands at Bridgewater College.

Live coverage of the event begins on Jan. 1 at 7 a.m. EST and will run to approximately 10:30 a.m. EST. Each band will march the entirety of the route and then perform live to the cameras. On New Year’s Day, the event can be viewed on your local PBS station in Richmond, Charlottesville and Harrisonburg or streamed on lnydp.com.
