Joshua Beadle scored a jumper with less than a second remaining to give Coastal Carolina a 69-68 victory over James Madison University in men’s basketball on Friday night at the Atlantic Union Bank Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
James Madison closed out its regular season with a record of 17 wins and 14 losses, going 9-9 in conference play. Coastal Carolina improved to 19-12 overall and 11-7 in league games after securing their third consecutive win.
Cliff Davis led JMU with 25 points, marking his fourth straight game scoring at least 20 points. Justin McBride contributed 12 points and was the Dukes’ top rebounder with seven boards. Bradley Douglas added 11 points.
For Coastal Carolina, Beadle finished with a game-high 29 points, including the decisive shot. AJ Dancler added 20 points, while Nadjrick Peat pulled down ten rebounds for the Chanticleers and scored six points.
The first half saw both teams exchanging baskets until JMU took a slight edge following a three-pointer by Ricks for a 17-14 lead just past the ten-minute mark. A put-back dunk by Brown later helped the Dukes extend their advantage to five before halftime, but two free throws from Dancler cut JMU’s lead to just two at intermission, with the score at 33-31.
After halftime, Davis hit a three-pointer that pushed JMU’s lead to seven early in the second half. However, Coastal Carolina responded quickly with an 11-0 run to move ahead by six. The Dukes rallied back behind Davis and McBride to tie the game at 50 midway through the half. Both teams traded leads down the stretch until Newhof gave JMU a one-point edge with under a minute left. Beadle then secured victory for Coastal Carolina with his last-second basket.
Davis made three shots from beyond the arc during the game, bringing his season total to 97—placing him third on JMU’s single-season list for three-pointers made and just four behind Kent Culuko’s school record set in the 1993–94 season (101). Davis has now scored in double figures for fourteen consecutive games and has reached at least twenty points seven times this year.
Kose Egbule recorded a season-high three steals during Friday’s contest.
