George Mason University defeated James Madison University’s baseball team 11-2 on Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The game was played under rainy conditions for most of the afternoon.

The loss drops the Dukes’ record to 5-6, while George Mason moves to an even 5-5 on the season.

James Madison managed seven hits in the game. Junior Josiah Seguin went 1-for-4 and scored a run with his second home run of the year, giving JMU an early lead in the fourth inning. Freshman Ryan Gocio drove in the only other run for JMU with an infield single in the seventh.

After three scoreless innings, Seguin’s home run put JMU ahead 1-0. In the fifth inning, George Mason responded by scoring two runs on a single after getting their first two batters on base. The Patriots extended their lead with four more runs in the sixth inning, taking advantage of a JMU error and adding a two-run single.

Gocio’s RBI single in the seventh cut into George Mason’s lead briefly. However, George Mason broke open the game with a grand slam and another RBI single during a five-run ninth inning.

James Madison will next play East Tennessee State University (ETSU) at Veterans Memorial Park from March 6 through March 8 as part of a nine-game stretch that includes eight home games.
