Georgia State University came from behind to win against James Madison University’s baseball team, 10-5, on April 10 at the GSU Baseball Complex.
The game was the opener of a series between the two teams. The Dukes’ overall record moved to 16-16 and their Sun Belt Conference record became 6-7. Georgia State improved its record to 16-19 overall and 4-9 in conference play.
James Madison started strong, taking a lead early in the game. Redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson hit his fourth home run of the season in the first inning, extending his hitting streak to eleven games. Junior Ike Schmidly added a two-run homer in the third inning, tying for the team lead in home runs with Josiah Seguin. In the fifth inning, junior Kyle Langley hit another two-run homer for JMU, giving them a five-run advantage.
However, Georgia State responded by scoring four runs in their half of the fifth inning and tied the game at five with a bunt single in the seventh. The Panthers then took control by scoring five more runs in the eighth inning.
Sophomores Jack Anderson and Reece Moody led JMU offensively with two hits each; Anderson also scored twice. Moody was caught stealing for only the second time this season after successfully stealing nine consecutive bases previously. The Dukes managed to get their leadoff hitter on base safely five times out of nine opportunities during the game.
Thompson’s current eleven-game hitting streak is now JMU’s longest since Mike Mancini’s seventeen-game streak during 2024.
James Madison is scheduled to play Georgia State again on April 11 for game two of their three-game series.
