How to Prioritize Cancer Screenings Considering Rising Costs

0Comments

Gas prices are soaring to nearly $5 a gallon and a gallon of milk is $4.33.  A mammogram seems like a luxury for a woman who makes minimum wage and without health insurance.  The average cost of a mammogram is around $340.  How is a woman to prioritize her health at that kind of cost?

AUGUSTA HEALTH HAS A SOLUTION

We have partnered with the Virginia Department of Health to launch the program Every Woman’s Life.  This program, previously offered through Augusta Regional Clinic, ended with the closure of that clinic.  Women in our service area would have been left without access to free lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings and services.  Augusta Health applied for the state and federal funds and was awarded the grant knowing that access to screening exams offers early detection, improves treatment options, and greatly increases survival rates.

WHO DOES EVERY WOMAN’S LIFE (EWL) SERVE?

To be eligible, woman must be/have:

  • Between 18–64 years of age*    *Women 18-39 must be symptomatic with a breast or cervical condition
  • Virginia resident
  • Gross household income that is 250% of the Poverty Level or less
  • No health insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare

WHAT SERVICES DOES EVERY WOMAN’S LIFE (EWL) PROVIDE FOR WOMEN 40 TO 64 YEARS OLD?

  • Clinical breast exam
  • Yearly mammogram
  • Pelvic exam and Pap Test

Let Augusta Health be part of the solution to the problem of rising costs and prioritizing your health.  If you would like to be screened for eligibility; contact Stefanie Bartley, EWL Case Manager, at 540-332-5300.  Or visit us online at https://www.augustahealth.com/service/every-womans-life-program/ to complete an application.
