James Madison University lost a close baseball game against Arkansas State, 2-1, in Sun Belt Conference play at Tomlinson Stadium on March 29.
The result leaves the Dukes with a record of 12-14 overall and 4-5 in conference play, while the Red Wolves improved to 18-9 overall and 5-4 in the Sun Belt. The tight score reflects both teams’ strong pitching and defense throughout the afternoon.
Junior Josiah Seguin led James Madison at the plate, recording two hits out of four at-bats. The game’s scoring began in the third inning when Arkansas State’s Kaden Amundson hit a solo home run. In the fourth inning, Arkansas State extended its lead to two runs with a sacrifice fly.
James Madison scored its only run in the sixth inning. Senior Jack Guerrero singled and advanced to second base on a wild pitch before coming home on an error after redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson grounded out to second base.
This matchup marked James Madison’s first rubber match of the season. The Dukes will next face Georgetown in Tysons, Virginia on Tuesday, March 31 with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
