James Madison University baseball secured a 5-1 win over Louisiana on April 4, taking the series at Veterans Memorial Park.

The game saw strong pitching and timely hitting from the Dukes, who now hold a record of 15-15 overall and 6-6 in Sun Belt play. Louisiana fell to 19-13 overall and 4-8 in conference games. The Dukes scored five runs on six hits, while the Cajuns managed one run on five hits and committed two errors.

Tyler Lutz earned his first win of the season for James Madison, allowing four hits and one run across three and two-thirds innings. Tyler Muscar picked up his second save of the year by pitching one and a third scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Jack Anderson led offensively with two hits in three at-bats, while Ike Schmidly contributed a two-RBI double. Conner Worth added another pair of RBIs with an eighth-inning double.

In the first inning, Moody drove in a run before Schmidly’s single brought home two more to give JMU an early lead. Louisiana responded in the seventh inning when Lee Amedee’s sacrifice fly made it 3-1. Worth’s double in the eighth extended JMU’s lead to four runs.

Game notes show that Schmidly achieved his eighth career multi-RBI game during this matchup, while Thompson extended his hitting streak to nine games with a first-inning double. The Dukes improved their Saturday record to seven wins out of nine games this season and recorded their first series win after dropping an opening game since March last year against Marshall.

Looking ahead, James Madison will travel to Charlottesville on Tuesday, April 7, for a matchup against No.10 Virginia at 6 p.m., which will be broadcast on ACC Network.
