James Madison University’s baseball team defeated Georgetown University, 12-7, in a game with four lead changes and three ties at Capital One Park on March 31.

The result moves the Dukes to a record of 13-14 for the season, while the Hoyas fall to 16-13. The close contest saw both teams take and lose leads throughout the evening.

Redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson led James Madison at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs batted in, three runs scored, and three doubles. His performance marked season highs for hits and runs scored. Thompson became the first Duke since Fenwick Trimble in April of last year to hit three doubles in a single game. Senior Jaden Kinsler improved his pitching record to 4-0 by throwing one and one-third scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Redshirt sophomore Luke McGrath earned his fourth save of the season by recording four strikeouts over one and one-third scoreless innings—a career high for him.

The game began with James Madison taking an early lead before Georgetown responded quickly. After several innings trading leads—highlighted by key hits from Reece Moody, Josiah Seguin, Jack Anderson, Ryan Gocio, and others—the Dukes pulled away late in the game. Notably, Anderson finished with two hits in two at-bats and drove in four runs for a new personal best.

Additional highlights included James Madison being hit by pitches seven times—a new single-game program record—and tying their season high with six doubles during the match. Eight out of eleven total RBI came with two outs. Seguin extended his hitting streak to ten games after returning from an eight-game absence earlier this month.

Looking ahead, James Madison will host Louisiana at Veterans Memorial Park from April 2 through April 4.
