North Florida defeated James Madison University 5-2 in a men’s tennis match on March 17 at the UNF Tennis Center in Jacksonville, Florida. The Ospreys secured the doubles point and won four singles matches, including straight-set victories on the top three courts.

The result brings North Florida’s record to 9-7 and James Madison’s to 8-5. This meeting marked only the third time the two teams have played each other, with North Florida now leading the all-time series 2-1. It was also their first encounter in 35 years.

James Madison started strong in doubles play as Esteve Agusti and Aurelien Schmitt claimed a 6-2 win on court one against Aron Major and Andreas Scott. However, North Florida responded by winning on courts two and three to take the doubles point.

In singles competition, North Florida maintained momentum with straight-set wins by Andreas Scott over Agusti (6-3, 6-2) on court one, Youssef Labbene over Schmitt (6-2, 6-0) on court two, and Kyle Piqueras over Ryan Morgan (6-2, 6-1) on court three. Joao Portugal added another point for North Florida by defeating Gur Libal (6-2, 6-4) on court five.

James Madison earned its points through super tiebreaker victories. Francisco Sinopoli won against Breno Marques (6-1, 6-7, 1-0 [10-6]) on court four, while Zach Fleishman rallied from a set down to beat Aron Major (4-6, 6-1, 1-0 [10-7]) on court six.

James Madison will conclude its road trip with a match against Georgia Southern in Statesboro on Friday, March 20. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
