James Madison softball falls to George Mason in midweek game

James Madison University softball lost to George Mason University, 5–3, at the George Mason Softball Complex on March 25. The Dukes recorded three runs on ten hits and one error, while the Patriots scored five runs on seven hits with no errors.

The result leaves James Madison with a record of 15-15 for the season. The team started strong by taking a two-run lead in the second inning. Emma Jo Evans doubled to bring home Bella Henzler for the first run, and Kira Ortega singled to score Emily LeGrand for the second.

George Mason responded in the bottom of the third inning with five runs, turning a two-run deficit into a three-run lead. Logan Pickford led George Mason offensively by going 2-for-4 at bat, while Kamryn Inman drove in two runs. Pitcher Bri Lencz earned the win after allowing just two runs over three innings.

For James Madison, Emily LeGrand went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Kendra Lewis and Ortega also went 2-for-4 each, with Ortega collecting two RBIs during the game.

Looking ahead, James Madison will return home to face South Alabama as Sun Belt Conference play resumes at Veteran’s Memorial Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., and fans can watch live coverage on ESPN+.
