James Madison University’s baseball team was limited to three hits and lost 10-0 to No. 16 Coastal Carolina on March 21 in Sun Belt Conference play at Springs Brook Stadium.

The loss puts the Dukes at an overall record of 11-10 and a conference record of 3-2, while the Chanticleers improved to 15-7 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0.

Senior Jack Guerrero, junior Ike Schmidly, and sophomore Reece Moody each recorded one hit for James Madison, combining for a total of three hits in nine at-bats. The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Coastal Carolina scored six runs, including a three-run home run by Trace Mazon. In the sixth inning, the Chanticleers added two more runs with another home run and a double. The seventh inning saw Coastal load the bases, add a run on a throwing error, and then end the game early by enacting the run rule with a single into center field for their tenth run.

James Madison had previously won four consecutive weekends before dropping this series to Coastal Carolina. The Dukes’ Saturday record now stands at five wins and two losses this season.

The teams will meet again for the series finale scheduled for March 22 at 1 p.m., after which James Madison will return home for a midweek matchup against Radford on March 24.
