James Madison University’s men’s tennis team secured a 4-3 win over Campbell University on Saturday at the James Nisbet Tennis Center in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Dukes improved their season record to 6-3 and evened the all-time series with Campbell at 2-2. This marks JMU’s first victory over Campbell since their initial meeting in 1989.
JMU began the match by winning the doubles point, with Esteve Agusti and Francisco Sinopoli earning a 6-2 victory against Thomas Drapeau and Max Hamon on court one. On court three, Harrison Lee and Aurelien Schmitt defeated Alex Fragasso and Mikolaj Kowal 6-3.
In singles play, five of six matches were decided in straight sets. Harrison Lee extended JMU’s lead with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Max Hamon on court six. Gur Libal followed with a similar result on court five, defeating Matias Lofink by identical scores. Ryan Morgan clinched the overall win for JMU on court two with a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Adi Dagan.
Campbell responded by taking points on courts one, three, and four. Aleksandar Hudjec overcame Francisco Sinopoli in three sets (6-3, 0-6, 6-4) on court four. Thomas Drapeau defeated Aurelien Schmitt (7-5, 6-4) on court one, while Alex Fragasso edged Zach Fleishman in a tiebreaker (7-4, 7-6 (4)) on court three.
JMU will continue its seven-match road trip next Friday when it faces Richmond at 12:30 p.m.
