James Madison University’s softball team lost 8–0 to Michigan at Veterans Memorial Park on Wednesday. Michigan, which improved its record to 17-5, scored first in the opening inning. JMU’s defense prevented further runs in the second inning. The Dukes had opportunities to score in both the second and third innings but left runners in scoring position each time.

Michigan expanded its lead in the third inning with three runs, including a two-run home run. In the fourth inning, the Wolverines added three more runs on a three-run homer and then hit a solo home run in the fifth to complete their scoring.

JMU managed four hits during the game from Emily LeGrand, Mia Tribul, Bella Henzler, and Kendra Lewis but was unable to reduce Michigan’s lead.

The Dukes will next play at the Hokie Invite at Moyer Sports Complex from March 5–8. They are scheduled to face Boston College, Virginia Tech, Bryant, Penn State, and Radford. Their first game is against Boston College on Friday, March 8 at 3:30 p.m.
