The City of Staunton Lewis Creek Watershed Advisory Committee is partnering with six local organizations to organize an official Clean the Bay Day team that will work to clean up the Lewis Creek Watershed on several dates the first week of June. The team will be comprised of members of the City of Staunton’s Lewis Creek Watershed Advisory Committee, the Friends of the Middle River, JMU Valley Scholars, Tiger Solar, Skyline Rotary Club and Shenandoah Green.

Staunton’s Lewis Creek Watershed originates entirely in and around Staunton and Augusta County.  All of Lewis Creek then flows into the Middle River, which flows into the Shenandoah River, which flows into the Potomac River and ultimately all flows into the Chesapeake Bay, making Lewis Creek part of the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay.  Therefore a single-use plastic water bottle, plastic straw or plastic bag thrown on the ground here can ultimately end up in the Chesapeake Bay.

Additional information about the Clean the Bay Days and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation can be found on their website.
