Mark Obenshain, a Republican member of the Virginia State Senate representing the 2nd district since his election in 2024, shared several posts on his social media account commenting on legislative priorities and ongoing political debates in Virginia.

On January 19, 2026, Obenshain expressed concerns regarding the state’s financial standing in relation to proposed legislation by Democratic lawmakers. He stated, “She says she will protect our AAA bond rating and our national business ranking. I certainly hope so. That will be more easily said than done given some of the legislation touted as priorities by my Democratic colleagues.”

Later that same day, he criticized Democratic leaders for their approach to a proposed amendment concerning abortion rights in the Virginia Constitution. In his words from a post dated January 19, 2026, Obenshain wrote, “Democrats— including the Governor are not being honest about what the proposed Abortion amendment to the Va Constitution will do. They willfully gloss over that it will lead to the invalidation of our parental involvement laws for minors seeking abortions.”

The following day, on January 20, 2026, Obenshain encouraged followers to review his summary of legislative activities with a post reading: “Check out my recap from the first week of session!”

Obenshain assumed office after winning election to represent Virginia’s 2nd Senate district in 2024, succeeding Mamie Locke.
