Mark Obenshain, a Republican elected to the Virginia State Senate in 2024 representing the state’s 2nd Senate district, commented on Governor Youngkin’s final State of the Commonwealth address delivered before a joint assembly of the House and Senate.
On January 15, 2026, Obenshain wrote: “Last night, Governor Youngkin gave his final State of the Commonwealth address before a joint assembly of the House and Senate. He spoke of what some have termed as the Virginia Renaissance. (1/3) https://t.co/8cijvtMIes”
In a follow-up post on the same day, he reflected on conditions in Virginia four years prior: “Four years ago, more people were leaving the Commonwealth than entering it, schools were lagging behind nationally, and as a whole Virginia was following, not leading. (2/3)”
Obenshain concluded his remarks by crediting Governor Youngkin’s administration for recent improvements in the state: “Because of his work, and Virginia‘s positive response to it, we now are one of the best states in the country to do business, our schools are models of education, like they once were, and Virginians are leaving this Commonwealth a better place for the future generations. (3/3)”
Obenshain succeeded Mamie Locke in representing Virginia’s 2nd Senate district after winning election in 2024.
