Augusta County issued the following announcement on Feb. 25

Elana Sorrell is the Senior Purchasing Assistant for Augusta County. Elana has served the County for over 3 years in the Finance Department. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Communications from Old Dominion University, and completed the Virginia Contracting Associate (VCA) certification in 2019 and the Virginia Contracting Officer (VCO) certification in 2020 through the Virginia Department of General Services.

“Purchasing plays an important role in the public sector as most of these purchases are funded with taxpayer dollars,” Elana explained. “My job as the purchasing assistant is to oversee the solicitation process from initiation to contract signing to be sure that it is transparent, that it is open to all qualified offerors, and it follows Virginia’s procurement law (VPPA) and policies and procedures (APSPM).”

Whenever there is a larger need in the County, a new roof on a County building, a strategic plan or uniforms for examples, a solicitation is publicly issued for bids or proposals. Those solicitations can be found on the County’s website and the Virginia’s eProcurement Portal, eVA. You can register to receive notification when those solicitations are made available through the links below.

When asked, “what’s next?,” Elana says that she would like to work towards a nationally recognized procurement certification. She plans to continue to seek out trainings and courses to stay up to date on important topics and the latest trends and information impacting the procurement world.

Elana reflected, “I enjoy my position and working for the County because every day is not the same, there is a new learning opportunity around every corner.”
