Nine current or former James Madison University football student-athletes were recognized as members of the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, according to an April 8 announcement by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
The honor was awarded to quarterback Alonza Barnett III, defensive lineman Immanuel Bush, offensive lineman Zach Greenberg, quarterback Blake Kendall, tight end Logan Kyle, offensive lineman Pat McMurtrie, punter Patrick Rea, cornerback Mekhi Rodgers and kicker Morgan Suarez. Both Kyle and McMurtrie are repeat honorees from the previous year’s list.
To be selected for this recognition, seniors or graduated players from all divisions must have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2 throughout their collegiate careers. This year saw a record number of qualifiers nationwide: 2,596 players from 365 schools earned membership in the society.
This marks the sixth time since 2016 that James Madison University has had at least five players honored by the NFF in a single season. The nine honorees this year represent the second-highest total for JMU in one season; last year set a program record with eleven selections.
The continued recognition highlights academic achievement among student-athletes at James Madison University.
