Radford University scored three runs in the fourth inning to defeat James Madison University’s baseball team 4-2 on March 10 at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.
The loss brings the Dukes’ record to 7-8, while Radford improves to 8-6. The game was decided during a pivotal fourth inning when Radford responded to an early JMU run with four hits and three runs, taking a lead they would not relinquish.
Josiah Seguin led the Dukes offensively, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and hitting his fourth home run in five games. This achievement marks him as the first Duke since Fenwick Trimble in April 2024 to hit four homers in such a span. “With Josiah Seguin’s single in the fourth inning, the junior has now reached base in 14 games and has hit safely in 13 games through the opening 15 games of the season,” according to team statistics.
JMU initially took the lead when sophomore Reece Moody executed a squeeze bunt that brought home Seguin. However, Radford quickly answered back with their own offensive surge. In later innings, Radford added another run on a groundout after putting runners on the corners. Seguin’s solo home run in the eighth narrowed the gap but was not enough for a comeback.
Brode Susce set a new season high by pitching 2.2 innings of relief for JMU. Meanwhile, Moody saw his streaks end: it was his first game this season without reaching base safely and snapped his ten-game hitting streak—the longest for JMU since last year.
Looking ahead, James Madison will host Georgia Southern from March 13 to March 15 at Veterans Memorial Park as they begin Sun Belt Conference play.
