Freshmen Klára Sionková and Emerson Elm led the James Madison University women’s golf team with top-25 individual finishes at the Magnolia Collegiate, according to a March 17 announcement.
The performance highlights the contributions of first-year players in a competitive field. Sionková tied for 14th place out of 79 golfers, finishing with a total score of 227 (+11) after rounds of 75, 75, and 77. Elm finished tied for 23rd with a three-round total of 230 (+14), posting scores of 75, 77, and 78 while playing through challenging conditions at the par-72, 6,204-yard Magnolia Grove Golf Course.
James Madison placed seventh among fourteen teams in the tournament. The Dukes recorded team rounds of 302, 303, and 312 for an overall score of 917 (+53). South Alabama won the team title with a score of 893 (+29), while Isaki Sakashita from Stetson claimed individual medalist honors by finishing at one over par (217).
Other notable performances for JMU included sophomore Bella Flores, who tied for 27th place with rounds of 76, 77, and 78 for a total score of 231 (+15). Grace Petzold tied for 42nd at a combined score of 235 (+19), while Amber Mackiewicz achieved her career-best finish by tying for 45th. Mackiewicz also posted her season-low round with a score of two over par (74) during Monday’s second round.
The Dukes are scheduled to compete next at the Liz Murphey Collegiate in Athens, Georgia on Saturday, March 28.
