City of Staunton issued the following announcement on Sept. 2
Staunton residents can safely dispose of hazardous household materials from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona.
Augusta County hosts a Household Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Day every fall for residents of Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro.
The following materials will be accepted:
- Gasoline
- Kerosene
- Oil-based paints and stains
- Rechargeable batteries
- Mercury devices
- Small electronics
- Diesel fuel
- #2 fuel oil
- Polyurethane
- Solvents
- Automobile batteries
- Pesticides, herbicides
- Propane tanks
- Antifreeze
- 2 cycle fuel mix
- CFL & fluorescent bulbs
- Used motor oil
- computers
- Unlabeled and unknown containers
- Large electronics
- Televisions
- Latex (water-based) paint
- Household batteries
- Tires
The Augusta Regional Landfill accepts certain hazardous waste materials year-round. Those items include used oil, antifreeze, all types of batteries, including household and car (lead-acid) batteries, various types of fuel, and cell phones. Latex, or water-based paints may be disposed of through normal household waste disposal when dried to a solid state. Latex paint is not hazardous.
