City of Harrisonburg issued the following announcement on Jan.
Individuals owning a dog within the city are required to obtain a dog license for each dog they own. In order to obtain a dog license, the dog’s owner must present a valid rabies certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian for each dog. This applies to all dogs 16 weeks of age and older, regardless if it is an indoor or outdoor dog.
Dog licenses are available at the Harrisonburg Treasurer’s Office, 409 South Main Street or at the Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA 2170 Old Furnace Road.
The tag that is given must be placed on the dog’s collar, especially if the dog is off of the owner’s property.
