City Receives Grant from Community Foundation

36

The giant watering can and flower pots that grace “the junction” in the City of Staunton are lit up again thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge to honor Susan Blackley’s many years of service as the City’s first paid horticulturist.

The low voltage lighting system at the underpass was installed in early April and replaces a system that was over two decades old and beyond repair. The grant paid for the new lighting component and an electrical contractor, and City staff also assisted in the installation. The work could not have been completed without the generous gift.

The giant watering can was installed at that location in 1999, and the flower pots were installed in 2000.

The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge is supported by local donors, governed by a board of directors and led by a dedicated staff working toward the greater good of the community. It serves the independent cities of Staunton and Waynesboro, and the counties of Augusta, Nelson and Highland in Virginia.
