A trio of Virginia Military Institute lacrosse players were named Northeast Conference Prime Performers on March 16 following their performance in a close 13-12 loss to Le Moyne. Dayton Bagwell, Beau Durkin, and Will Gormsen were among the twelve athletes recognized by the conference for their efforts during the weekly league honors.

The recognition highlights the strong individual performances from VMI despite the team’s narrow defeat. These honors are part of the conference’s weekly awards that spotlight standout players across member schools.

Bagwell scored four goals on eleven shot attempts, with nine shots on target, and also contributed a groundball and caused turnover. His four-goal effort brought his career total to seventy goals, making him only the eighteenth player in program history to reach this milestone with one and a half years left to play.

Gormsen recorded his first hat trick as a Keydet, scoring three goals and adding three assists for a career-high six points. He attempted seven shots, five of which were on goal, and picked up three groundballs in what was described as his best game so far.

Durkin played an important role in directing VMI’s offense by registering five assists during the conference opener. He also took four shots and collected two groundballs.

VMI will continue its Northeast Conference schedule this week with an away game against Mercyhurst in Erie, Pennsylvania, scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
