James Madison University men’s golf team tied for third place at the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate, according to a March 11 announcement. Senior Václav Tichý and junior Michael Hake both finished in the top ten, tying for sixth with three-round scores of 212, four under par, at the Mid Pines Golf Course in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
The tournament featured a field of 100 players and 20 teams. Tichý’s performance marked his second consecutive top-10 finish and fourth of the season. He opened with a four-under-par round of 68 on Monday before finishing with two even-par rounds of 72. Hake recorded his best finish in a James Madison uniform with rounds of 70, 73, and a final round of 69.
James Madison’s team total was an aggregate score of 862, two under par, tying them with George Washington as one of only four teams to finish under par for the event. Richmond won the team title with an overall score of six under par at 858. This result marks the Dukes’ fifth top-five team finish during the current season.
Senior Owen Kose placed third among JMU golfers after climbing sixteen spots on Wednesday by shooting an even-par round of 72. He had earlier rounds of one over par (73) and two over par (74). Freshman Ethan Anderson tied for forty-fourth place after posting rounds totaling six over par, while senior Alex Seibal tied for sixty-eighth despite opening with a one-under-par round.
The Dukes are scheduled to continue their spring season at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, North Carolina on March 30-31.
