VMI Baseball lost both games of a doubleheader against High Point University at Williard Stadium on April 26. The Keydets, now holding a record of 26-17 overall and 3-9 in the Southern Conference, were swept in the series by the Panthers, who improved to 29-14 overall and 11-4 in the Big South Conference.

The first game ended with VMI falling 12-6. Cole Raile hit two home runs, finishing with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Ayden Schnarrs had two hits and stole two bases, while Seth Buchanan scored twice. Owen Prince extended his on-base streak to a record-tying 42 games with a single. Andrew Jones recorded four strikeouts for VMI, and Grayson Fitzwater drew two walks.

During game one, VMI took an early lead after Raile’s first home run but could not maintain it as High Point responded with multiple scoring innings including a five-run fourth capped by a grand slam. Despite efforts from players like Kazuya Jordan who drew a bases-loaded walk late in the game, errors allowed High Point to extend their lead.

In the second game of the day, VMI was defeated 5-2. The team managed six hits with Raile going two-for-three including a double. Gabe Jenkins contributed two doubles while Bradley Garner tripled and drove in one run. Prince again extended his single-season on-base streak—this time reaching 43 consecutive games—and Jim Douthat pitched three perfect innings in relief.

High Point built an early advantage with runs across several innings before VMI broke through when Garner’s hit allowed Prince to score from third base. Raile later scored off a groundout for VMI’s second run.

The Keydets will return home to Lexington for their next matchup against Longwood on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
