VMI Baseball lost to Samford on April 11 in the second game of their Southern Conference series at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
The result is significant as it gives Samford a series win and marks only the second time this season that VMI has dropped consecutive games, though the Keydets have yet to lose three straight. The final score was 8-3 in favor of the Bulldogs, who responded quickly each time VMI managed to close the gap.
VMI scored first with back-to-back RBI singles from Cole Cook and Benjamin Cardone in the second inning, taking an early 2-0 lead. However, Samford answered with four runs in their half of the inning. Grayson Fitzwater homered for his second consecutive day in the sixth inning, narrowing Samford’s lead to one run before another four-run response by the Bulldogs sealed VMI’s fate.
Among individual performances, Andrew Jones pitched two no-hit innings for VMI while Owen Prince extended his on-base streak to 34 games. Cole Raile also contributed with his second triple of the season.
The Keydets will look to avoid a sweep when they face Samford again on Sunday afternoon.
