VMI Baseball will host George Washington University for a rematch at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium, according to an announcement on April 6. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.

The matchup marks the conclusion of a home-and-home series between the Keydets and the Revolutionaries. VMI currently leads the series after securing a win in Arlington earlier this season. The Keydets enter the contest with a record of 22-8 overall and are looking to continue their strong non-conference performance, having gone 21-4 outside league play.

VMI has built its recent success around speed and aggressive base running under head coach Sam Roberts. The team has led NCAA Division I in stolen bases for three consecutive seasons, including setting a program record last year. This season, VMI has already recorded 139 steals and leads the nation in both total steals and steals per game.

On offense, several players have stood out. Owen Prince is close to breaking the school’s career stolen base record and holds impressive hitting streaks. Grayson Fitzwater ranks among national leaders in on-base percentage and slugging percentage, while Hunter Sipe has excelled as a pitcher with top marks nationally in walks allowed per nine innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio.

George Washington enters with an overall record of 11-19 and is led by head coach Gregg Ritchie, who recently achieved his 300th win as skipper of the Revolutionaries. GW’s defense is notable for turning double plays at one of the highest rates nationally despite challenges on the road this season.

The teams have met frequently over recent years, with VMI holding six wins out of ten matchups over the past decade. Their most recent meeting saw VMI win on March 24 in Arlington.
