The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) lacrosse team will begin its Northeast Conference schedule on March 13 as it travels to Syracuse, New York, to face Le Moyne College. The game is set for a noon start at Ted Grant Field.

This matchup marks the Keydets’ first conference game of the season following three consecutive victories in non-conference play. In their most recent outing, VMI secured a narrow 9-8 win over Monmouth on March 7. The team overcame a two-goal deficit in the final quarter, with junior Jack Duncan-Bloom scoring the decisive goal with just over a minute remaining. Freshman Ethan Ostrowski led the offense with four goals and was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, while Duncan-Bloom contributed a hat trick. On defense, freshman Alex Seaton recorded six caused turnovers and five groundballs.

Le Moyne enters Saturday’s contest seeking to end a three-game losing streak. The Dolphins most recently lost to Hobart College by a score of 12-7 and have also suffered defeats against Siena and Manhattan in overtime. Their only win this season came against St. Bonaventure on February 28.

Offensively, Conner Vaughn and Thomas Berry lead Le Moyne with ten goals each, while Owen Wilson has nine goals so far this year. Emmet McDermott has provided a team-high ten assists, making him an important part of the Dolphins’ attack despite having only two goals himself. Dominic Pezzimenti leads the defense with six caused turnovers this season.

Last year marked the first meeting between VMI and Le Moyne, with the Dolphins narrowly defeating the Keydets 10-9 after rallying in the final period.
