The Virginia Military Institute men’s track and field team competed on April 25 at the John Weaver Invitational hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The event took place on a rainy Saturday, with athletes achieving strong performances despite challenging weather conditions.
The meet provided an opportunity for VMI athletes to post personal bests and high placements as they prepare for upcoming championship events. Senior Isaiah Blount led the team with a fourth-place finish in the discus throw, reaching a distance of 43.16 meters. Elisha Williams set a new personal record with his tenth-place mark of 37.95 meters in the same event.
Freshman Cameron Lambert also achieved a personal best, placing fourth overall in the mile run with a time of 4:26.80. In shot put competition, Williams finished seventh at 14.47 meters, narrowly ahead of teammate Tazewell Rae who placed eighth with a throw of 14.40 meters.
VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott said, “Both the men and women showed resilience on Day 2, pushing through heavy rain that moved in midway and continuing to compete with purpose.”
Looking ahead, the Keydets will have two weeks to prepare for their next major competition: the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 11-12 at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee.
