The Virginia Military Institute men’s track and field team earned several top placements and personal bests at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on April 11. The event comes as the team prepares for the upcoming Southern Conference meet next month.

The results highlight strong performances across multiple events. Halim Hardnett won the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters, narrowly surpassing teammate Vahin Middough, who took second place at 1.85 meters. Colin Crenshaw finished first in the steeplechase with a season-best time of 10:09.42, while Camden Gonzales placed third in that event.

Freshman Cameron Lambert secured second place in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:05.93. Deonte Harris came in third in the triple jump with a distance of 14.12 meters and also finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.11 seconds.

Other notable results included Rye Jackson placing fourth in the 400-meter dash with a personal record of 48.57 seconds, Nicholas Russo taking fifth place in the 3,000-meter run, Elisha Williams finishing sixth and Tazewell Rae seventh in shot put, Hardnett coming seventh in the 100-meter dash, and freshman Grayson Talbott earning eighth place in javelin throw.

VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott said, “The men of VMI brought a focused, competitive edge today and showed what this group is capable of. We had strong efforts across multiple events, and the consistency is starting to come together. What stands out most is how the team competed for each other; that is what builds success. This was a solid step forward, and we’re motivated to keep raising the bar.”

Select VMI cadet-athletes are scheduled to compete next at the UVA Challenge on April 17-18.
