The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) track and field team began its outdoor season on March 20 with the throwers competing on the first day of the 2026 Big South-SoCon Challenge, hosted by UNC Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina.

The event marks the start of the spring campaign for VMI’s athletes. The performances set an early benchmark for the team as they look to build momentum throughout the season.

Senior Isaiah Blount represented VMI in the men’s javelin, achieving a throw of 41.32 meters and securing sixth place in his event. On the women’s side, freshman Jada James recorded a hammer throw of 29.53 meters, finishing in 16th place.
