The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) track and field teams will return from spring break to participate in the annual Big South-Southern Conference Challenge, scheduled for March 20-21 in Asheville, North Carolina, according to a March 18 announcement. The two-day event will be held at UNC Asheville’s Karl Straus Track.
This year marks VMI’s first appearance as one of three Southern Conference schools selected for the meet. The event brings together teams from both the Big South and Southern Conferences. Representing the Big South are Radford, Winthrop, and UNC Asheville, while VMI joins Wofford and Western Carolina from the Southern Conference.
The Keydets will field a roster of cadet-athletes across various events. On the men’s side, participants include Isaiah Blount in discus and javelin; Colin Crenshaw in the 2000-meter steeplechase; Zachary Denton in long jump; Halim Hardnett in the 100 meters and high jump; Deonte Harris in hurdles and triple jump; Rye Jackson in sprints; Tyrus James and Cameron Thomas in pole vault; Kevin Koumondji in sprints; Vahin Middough in high jump; Rae Tazewell and Elisha Williams in throws; Anthony Wilkerson in long jump.
For the women’s team, competitors include Evelyn Anderson (400 meters), Ava Buckner (discus, long jump), Genevieve Cummings (discus, high jump), Miracle Eric (400 meters), Naturale Faison (sprints), Morgan Fraser (high jump), Shea Hart (hurdles), Jada James (shot put, hammer), and JeNiya White (hurdles).
Saturday’s portion of the meet will be available for viewing on ESPN+, with live results also provided online. Additional information about the meet is accessible through official channels.
