The VMI Water Polo Team began Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on March 14, facing tough competition but ultimately falling in matches against La Salle and No. 17 Marist.

These games mark the start of the conference season for VMI, highlighting both individual performances and areas for improvement as the team continues its schedule.

In the first game against La Salle, Sydney Smith led VMI with four goals. Makynna Smith, Sadie Smith, and Noa Ziv each contributed three goals. Maddie Day recorded eight saves in goal. Despite opening the scoring, VMI trailed 5-3 after the first quarter. La Salle extended their lead to eight before a late rally by VMI narrowed the gap, but the team ultimately lost by three goals with a final score of 14-17.

In their second contest of the day against nationally ranked Marist, VMI fell by a score of 13-27. Makynna Smith again led offensively with four goals while Noa Ziv added two scores. Five other Keydets also found the back of the net during these matchups. Goalkeepers Ysabel Casillas and Taylor Hammon combined for four saves across both games.

Looking ahead, VMI will travel to Marist next weekend to face Iona and Villanova in what will be their final road trip of the season.
