After a break in their schedule, the VMI Water Polo team is set to compete this Sunday against two nationally ranked opponents: No. 20 Brown University and No. 13 Harvard University.

VMI currently holds a 6-5 overall record. In their last appearance at the Macalester Invite, the team finished with three wins and one loss. Senior Sydney Smith was recognized as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week after scoring 19 goals during the tournament, including three decisive goals in a narrow victory over Macalester.

Brown University enters the weekend with a 10-6 record and is tied for 20th place in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Poll. The Bears have achieved six wins against MAAC teams, while all of their losses have been to programs ranked in the top 25 nationally. Brown’s coaching staff includes first-year assistant Claire Possonnier, who previously earned an Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Honorable Mention All-American honor as a player for Brown.

Harvard University brings a strong performance into these matchups, holding a 16-1 record with its only defeat coming from No. 14 Michigan. Ranked 13th in the CWPA poll, Harvard has secured victories over several other ranked teams this season, including Indiana, Wagner, California Baptist, and Princeton.
