The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Women’s Water Polo Team will travel to Marist this weekend for matchups against Iona and nationally ranked Villanova, according to a March 19 announcement.

These games are important as the Keydets look to improve their standing after recent challenging contests. The team is scheduled to play Iona on Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by a game against No. 24 Villanova on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Last weekend, VMI faced tough competition, battling Mount St. Mary’s and La Salle before falling to No. 17 Marist. The upcoming game against Iona features a Gaels squad with a season record of 7-14 and an 0-3 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Both teams recently lost to Mount St. Mary’s, with similar margins of defeat. VMI’s last victory over Iona was in 2021 in New Rochelle, New York.

Villanova enters the weekend with a strong record of 16-7 overall and an undefeated streak in MAAC contests. Six of the Wildcats’ seven losses have come against nationally ranked opponents, and they are currently on a three-game winning streak.

The Keydets aim to use these matchups as opportunities for growth as they continue their season.
