The VMI Women’s Water Polo Team will host the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for the final games of the 2026 regular season at the VMI Aquatic Center in Lexington, according to a March 27 announcement.

This event is important as it brings together all conference teams for several matches, offering fans and athletes a culminating experience before postseason play. The Keydets are scheduled to play three games: against No. 21 Wagner on Saturday morning, Siena on Saturday evening, and LIU on Sunday late morning.

VMI enters the weekend with a 6-12 overall record, marking their second-highest win total under head coach Danielle Montenegro. The team recently competed in Poughkeepsie but fell short against Iona and No. 24 Villanova. Sydney Smith leads VMI with 50 goals this season, followed by Sadie Smith with 42 and Makynna Smith with 40 goals. Ysabel Casillas has contributed defensively with a team-best of 80 blocks.

Wagner arrives at the tournament tied for No. 21 nationally despite holding a slightly negative record of 10-11; ten of those losses were against top-25 opponents. Last weekend Wagner split their games, defeating Siena but losing to Marist. Siena stands at an overall record of 6-9 and has only lost to nationally ranked teams; they are coming off a loss to No.18 Marist but have gone .500 over their last six matches.

LIU holds a record of 7-17 overall and is currently at one win and four losses in MAAC play this year; historically, LIU has won all nine previous meetings against VMI.

The full tournament schedule includes multiple matchups each day beginning early Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon, featuring all participating conference teams.
