The Virginia Military Institute women’s track and field team competed on April 25 at the John Weaver Invitational hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The event took place on a rainy Saturday, where the team achieved several strong performances.
The competition is significant as it serves as one of the final meets before the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships, giving athletes an opportunity to prepare and improve their standings.
Sophomore Naturale Faison finished second in the 100-meter preliminaries with a time of 11.78 seconds, while SeMore Green placed sixth at 12.08 seconds. The 4×100 relay team—composed of Miracle Eric, Green, JeNiya White, and Faison—secured fourth place with a time of 46.59 seconds.
In field events, Ruth Dickersheid placed fifth in shot put with a distance of 11.73 meters. Diamond Baker followed in seventh place at 11.52 meters, and Heaven Hall set a new personal best with an eleventh-place finish at 10.94 meters. Freshman Ava Buckner came ninth in the long jump (4.76 meters). On the track side, Hayden Talbott was ninth in the 800-meter run (2:31.44), ahead of freshman Jazmyn Mackin who finished fifteenth (2:36.90). Junior Evelyn Anderson ran the 400 meters in 1:00.16 for eleventh place.
VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott said: “Both the men and women showed resilience on Day 2, pushing through heavy rain that moved in midway and continuing to compete with purpose.”
Looking ahead, VMI’s women’s track and field athletes will have two weeks to prepare for their next major competition—the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 11-12 at Western Carolina University.
