The VMI women’s track and field team began competition at the John Weaver Invitational in Boone, North Carolina on Apr. 24, achieving several notable results on the first day of the meet.

The event marks an important opportunity for athletes to test their skills against regional competitors and set new personal bests as they progress through the season.

Junior Morgan Fraser led the Keydets by winning the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters. Ruth Dickersheid secured third place in the hammer throw, setting a new personal record with a distance of 40.45 meters. Jada James also achieved a personal best in the hammer throw, finishing eighth at 32.10 meters.

Dickersheid continued her strong showing by placing third in the javelin throw with another personal record distance of 29.20 meters, while freshman Ava Buckner finished eighth overall at 22.60 meters.

The team is scheduled to resume competition Saturday as events continue during the second day of the John Weaver Invitational.
