Bath County Public Schools issued the following announcement on Sept. 7.
Bath County Public Schools will pause in-school instruction beginning Wednesday, September 8 through Friday, September 17. This decision was made in collaboration with the local health department.
Schools are closed due to a shortage of transportation staff preventing the operation of school bus routes. The shortage is expected to continue through next week.
As of this weekend there are approximately 9 students and 3 staff positive COVID cases. Approximately 49 students and 4 staff members are currently quarantined. The majority of these individuals will be able to return to school or work by the end of next week.
Vaccinated students (12 years and older) and staff considered to be close contacts are required to wear masks and monitor for COVID symptoms, but they are not required to quarantine.
Elementary and high school staff will be communicating with parents/students regarding assignments and virtual attendance requirements.
Participation in athletic and extra-curricular events during the next two weeks is under review.
Tonight’s school board meeting is postponed. A new date and location will be announced at a later date.
