212 students enrolled in Highland County schools in 2023-24 school year

There were 212 students enrolled in Highland County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 6% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

In terms of gender distribution, the student body in Highland County comprised 50.9% girls, with boys representing the remaining 49.1%.

Data also showed that white students made up 94.8% of the student body, the largest percentage in Highland County schools, followed by Hispanic students with 1.9%, 0.9% Black or African American students and 0.5% Asian students.

Highland Elementary School had the highest enrollment among Highland County's two schools in the 2023-24 school year, welcoming 112 students.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools have an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1, slightly better than the national average of 15:1. Minority students, primarily Hispanic and Black, make up 54% of the enrollment, while white students constitute 46%.
