Highland County's districts student body comprised mostly of white students in 2023-24 school year

White students comprised the largest ethnic group in Highland County districts during the 2023-24 school year, according to reports from the Virginia Department of Education.

Of the 212 students attending Highland County district schools, 94.8% were white. Multiracial made up the second largest ethnic group, comprising 1.9% of the student population.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Highland County districts, representing 96% of the student body.

In the 2023-24 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the county increased by 6% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Highland County.

As of November 2023, according to Public School Review, in the 2023-24 school year, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
